The Horses
The horses at Special Equestrians are the program's most important staff members! To show them our gratitude, our herd is treated to monthly massages, careful health checks, regular exercise workouts, and lots of love from our family of riders and volunteers.
Most horses come to Special Equestrians by lease or donation from a loving owner who has decided their trusty companion would make a great therapeutic riding horse!
As it takes a special horse to take on this role, equines are carefully evaluated based on temperament, health, size, and skill. Our participants are not just here for a pony ride, so horses must be comfortable with independent riders at the walk, trot, and canter!
